We are a local Northwest Indiana family.
Our Story: It all started 10 years ago when we sold our first house. We listed it the “old way” and finally got an offer after 4 months. Morgan was pregnant with our second child and we had a toddler running around the house.
During that 4 months, we ran around like crazy trying to keep the house clean for last-minute showings. People roamed through our house like they owned the place.
Finally, we got our offer…$205,000. We were just excited for the wait to be over.
Little did we know, it was going to take another 2 months for the buyer to get his mortgage set up. In that time, the buyer also did an inspection where he asked for $4,000 worth of repairs to be done…Oh and he needed us to pay $3,000 of his closing costs so his mortgage didn’t fall through.
After 6 months, we were finally sitting down at the the title company to collect our check. As we looked through all of our expenses, we got to the amount we would actually put in our pocket.
To our dismay, it was not even close to the $205,000 we had agreed to months ago. Over the time we waited for the closing, we were responsible for taxes, utilities, insurance, and HOA fees. Then, we had to pay what they called “seller’s closing costs.”
Finally, the real estate agents walked away with an almost $15,000 check.
We were the last people to get paid.
We left that closing feeling like we got SCREWED.
It was after this experience that we decided there had to be a better way to sell a house.
