Cancel unused utilities (cable, internet, phone, etc).

Unused utilities are just money wasted down the drain. No one likes waiting on hold to make these calls, but it needs to be done.

If you have a recent bank statement or credit card statement, you can go through and find which of these services were being paid for. Many of them are on "autopay" these days so it is important to cancel them before they are deducted from the account again.

Also, the contract continues to run until it is cancelled so even if there is not an autopay, the charges will continue to accumulate. In rare cases, the provider may file a suit for a judgement against the estate to be reimbursed.

Common utilities/memberships to cancel:

  • Cell phone provider
  • TV service provider
  • Internet provider
  • AAA
  • YMCA or other gym facility
